VISITORS to last Saturday’s Coffee Stop had the opportunity to assist Trinity Eco Group and take part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.

Three areas of the church premises were set up as observation zones and clipboards were provided to help identify and make a tally of the birds seen.

The results really lifted everyone’s spirits as the numbers counted were up by a significant margin compared to last year. Here is the breakdown over one hour: 2 blackbirds, 4 blue tits, 2 coal tits, 3 house sparrows, 10 long-tailed tits, 3 robins, 4 woodpigeons, 1 wren and 2 jackdaws. Most of the birds spotted were in the wild garden at the back of the main hall, where we had bird feeders out.

The results have now been submitted to the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, and Eco Group members were pleased to hear how many people were also counting the birds at home, including our very own Rev Ian.

Eco Group member, Fiona Tomlin, not only helped with Trinity’s Big Garden Birdwatch, she also did a count at home and has signed up to Lancashire Wildlife Trust to learn more about the wildlife around us.
