Trinity Drama Group performed another of their famed Murder Mystery events over three nights in November.
Called The Great British Bump-Off, it featured the committee of Crumblebottom Village Fete organising and running a cake-baking competition in a tent, much like The Great British Bake-off series.
Problems start when a guest judge called Eduardo D’Angelo is appointed, to the great annoyance of the regular judge Patricia McLaren. Patricia is disliked by everyone in the cast as she threatens, and usually succeeds, in blackmailing just about everyone! It’s not surprising that one of the contestants in the baking competition takes the opportunity to murder her.
As most of the cast has suffered from Patricia’s behaviour, it is a problem for Detective Sam Nelson from Colne to decide who is the guilty person because they all have a motive and opportunity. Even Major Watt, the chair of the committee is under suspicion as he was blackmailed by Patricia.
Eventually, Detective Sam identifies the murderer and she confesses, but it is not poisoning in a way expected by most of the audience, who had the opportunity to complete an accusation form in a bid for a prize. A prize was awarded on two nights but no-one guessed who the murderer was on the third night!
The play was directed by Sue Paramore, directing for Trinity Drama Group for the first time.
The audience also enjoyed a pie and peas supper followed, appropriately, by cake. Fortunately, none of the audience suffered from food poisoning!
The next Trinity Drama Group Murder Mystery will be held in November 2025, with an extra matinee performance.
